Hello! Thank you for seeking out/randomly coming across my blog! I am a mother to two daughters, a wife, and a lover of the environment. I aspire to live to clean(er) lifestyle.
My journey to clean living started when I was 18 years old and diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). I was initially told by my gynecologist that I would likely never be able to bear my own children. I was devasted. I was 18. I was a senior in high school, thinking of the life ahead. For as long as I could and still can remember, all I’ve wanted to be was a mom. My nickname from middle school on was “Mama D.” I probably should have been more a kid, less of a mom as a child. But being a mom then and to this day, is what I’ve wanted most in life. When I was told that bearing my own children was likely impossible, a fascinating thing happened. I knew that no matter what, I would be mother. No matter what form that took. But I was angry and quite frankly really perplexed that my body wasn’t able to conceive or carry a child. What had I done? I was a fit, “healthy” teenager.
Thankfully, my parents, especially my mother, helped me to seek other expertise. A functional medicine (kinesiologist) doctor and a more Eastern-leaning medicine Endocrinologist both said that if I altered certain aspects of my lifestyle, mainly my diet and environmental factors, I could course-correct. I followed their advice and built on it. And at the age of 31, I had my first daughter followed by my second daughter almost three years later. Both naturally conceived, thankfully very easily. I am not a doctor. I am not a scientist. I do not have a degree in epidemiology. But I feel with certainty (with blood work to back it up) that changes I made in my day-to-day life contributed to my health and the conception and birth of my children.
I love research and being informed. I am constantly learning. I wish I had a trusted resource during many phases of my life, to help save time and energy when I needed to make a decision on which direction was best from food to home materials to weighing clean and green priorities.
I hope to be a trusted resource for you, making clean and green decisions just a little bit easier!
